Little Laverne is an orphan with a terribly tragic start to her tale but, we hope, a super happy ending. Little Laverne's pregnant mom Big Laverne was rescued from a feeder breeder and, despite heroic efforts from both her foster and an amazing veterinarian, she died in childbirth. Big Laverne had been bred many times before and also had color genetics sometimes associated with hemophilia, both of which may have factored in to her bleeding to death. Happily, two babies from the litter were able to be saved and were fostered by another very sweet mom rat who had also been pulled from the same situation. Assisting this foster mum, was Aunt Beast, who helped nurture the babies and gave the foster mum, who was herself quite ill, some time to rest. Little Laverne and her sister Badger along with nanny rat Aunt Beast came to live here after the girls were weaned and have been steadily growing and getting bolder and more playful by the minute.
