Coyote Tango, like his sister Gipsy Danger, was born in sorrow but grew into great joy. We lost his mother Banu right after delivery. It was one of the saddest days in my life with rats. Thankfully, we had another doe with a week old litter, the glorious Serafina Pekkala, who took Banu's surviving babies right in and treated them no differently than her own, doted upon quartet of chubby babies. Serafina was as magical as the fictional witch she was named for because those babies grew up to be the dearest, sweetest, most delightful rats anyone could wish for. I named the litter for the heroic jaegers (giant robots) in one of my favorite films, Pacific Rim, because they fought against the odds to not just survive but thrive. Coyote definitely rescues me daily from feeling grumpy or sad and from eating too many snacks as he's always there to share the (neural) load. His best friend is Francis and they are constantly racing like little curly madmen around the levels of the cage. Coyote descends from my first pedigreed rat, Keoki, who was the love of my ratty life and it's just like Keoki is still with me, albeit in a paler version of himself. Coyote is the very definition of a Rodent of Unusual Sweetness.
